MUSCLES

Training creates the demand. Muscles answer afterwards.

Muscles don't grow during training.

Training doesn't build muscle.

It creates the reason for your body to build it later.

The session ends.

The muscular response begins.

01

Should I stretch after training?

Not immediately.

Most people stretch because the workout is over. Your muscles don't care that the session has ended. They respond to the load you've just given them.

A few minutes of easy movement often prepares the tissue better than forcing a deep stretch straight away.

NEXT SESSION

Walk for five minutes before stretching.

Then decide if you still need it.

02

Why do my muscles still feel stiff?

Why do my muscles still feel stiff?

Stiff doesn't always mean damaged.

After a hard session your body often limits movement to protect heavily loaded tissue. Trying to force that feeling away isn't always the fastest solution.

Gentle movement usually restores confidence before flexibility.

NEXT SESSION

Move first.

Stretch later only if the stiffness remains.

03

Heat or cold?

Use the one that solves your problem.

Cold may help reduce pain after an impact or acute irritation. Heat usually helps when the goal is to move better through stiffness.

Neither one builds muscle.

Neither one replaces recovery.

NEXT SESSION

Ask one question first.

"Am I trying to calm pain, or improve movement?"

Choose from there.

04

Should I massage sore muscles?

It can help. It doesn't repair them.

Foam rollers, massage balls and massage tools don't rebuild muscle fibres. What they often do is reduce discomfort enough to let you move normally again.

That's where their value is.

NEXT SESSION

Use the tool for one or two minutes.

Then walk.

Judge it by how you move afterwards.

05

Should soreness decide my next workout?

No. Movement should.

Soreness tells you how yesterday felt.

Movement tells you what your body can do today.

A muscle that feels sore can still perform well. One that moves poorly shouldn't be pushed just because the soreness is gone.

NEXT SESSION

Don't judge your workout before your warm-up.

Move first.

Then decide.
